We thank Mr Tan Keong Boon for his letter, “Allow more than 4 subsidised visits a month at Chas clinics” (Aug 22).
The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) guidelines are set to cater to the needs of most patients while safeguarding against potential abuse of CHAS subsidies. Most patients are not expected to need more than four visits a month. However, some patients do, due to their specific care needs.
General practitioners who encounter such patients and who have assessed that a higher frequency of care is clinically appropriate may appeal to the Ministry of Health to exceed the visit limits.
