Question No. 3185

To ask the Minister for Health how does the Ministry plan to engage and involve traditional Chinese medicine practitioners under the Healthier SG initiative.

Written Answer

Healthier SG is a significant and transformative national healthcare strategy, requiring many stakeholders and partners to work together to support our residents’ needs.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners (TCMPs) are important stakeholders, especially given their emphasis on holistic and long-term care. However, unlike western doctors, TCMPs are not tightly regulated by MOH, the standard of care delivery varies widely, and we will not be able to take the same approach as we have for western doctors.

Since July this year, MOH has started engagement efforts with the TCMP community, through the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board (TCMPB), to hear their views and discuss with them how they can play a part in Healthier SG. TCMPB welcomed the initiative and will work with MOH and other community partners to support Healthier SG initiatives.
