Name and Constituency of Member of Parliament
Mr Patrick Tay Teck Guan
MP for Pioneer

Question No. 5510

To ask the Minister for Health whether nurses who are union members and who are to present themselves before the Nursing Board for inquiries can be represented by designated officers of the trade union whom they are members of, to be at the meetings and hearings.

Answer

For inquiry hearings relating to professional matters, the Nurses and Midwives Act 1999 and the Nurses and Midwives Regulations 2012 do not specify the position on representation by designated officers of the trade union whom the nurses are members of. They do provide that the nurse may appear for an inquiry hearing in person or be represented by his or her legal counsel.
