To ask the Minister for Health whether the estimated number of annual deaths attributable to second-hand smoke for Singapore based on studies such as the Global Burden of Disease has increased over the past ten years.

Answer

According to the Global Burden of Disease 2019 study, the estimated number of annual deaths attributable to second-hand smoke for Singapore has increased from 245 in 2010 to 296 in 2019. After adjusting for the effect of population ageing, the age-standardised death rate has declined from 5.2 per 100,000 population to 4.0 per 100,000 population over the same period.
