Update on Local COVID-19 Situation (17 Sep 2021)

Summary of local situation

· 813 cases are currently warded in hospital. There are currently 90 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 14 in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

· Over the last 28 days, of the 9,244 infected individuals, 98.2% have no or mild symptoms, 1.7% requires oxygen supplementation, 0.2% requires ICU care, and 0.03% has died.

· As of 16 September 2021, 82% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 84% has received at least one dose.

· As of 17 September 2021, 12pm, the Ministry of Health has detected a total of 935 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore, with 838 in the community, 96 in the migrant worker dormitories and 1 imported case.

Condition of hospitalised cases

        As of 17 September 2021, 12pm, 813 COVID-19 cases are currently warded in hospital. Most are well and under observation. There are currently 90 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 14 in critical condition in the ICU. Of those who have fallen very ill, 82 are seniors above 60 years.

2.     Over the last 28 days, the percentage of local cases who were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms is 98.2%. 153 cases required oxygen supplementation, 15 had been in the ICU, and 3 died, of whom none was fully vaccinated2.

Update on vaccination progress

3.     As of 16 September 2021, 82% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 84% has received at least one dose. 

4.     We have administered a total of 8,903,190 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme (Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty and Moderna), covering 4,568,101 individuals, with 4,438,511 individuals having completed the full vaccination regimen. In addition, 181,531 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered, covering 86,891 individuals.

Locally transmitted COVID-19 cases

5.     As of 17 September 2021, 12pm, the Ministry of Health has detected a total of 935 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore, comprising 838 community cases, 96 dormitory residents cases and 1 imported case. 

a) Active clusters under close monitoring

6.     We are closely monitoring the clusters listed below, which have already been ringfenced through tracing, testing and isolation.

b) Summary of trends for local cases

7.     There are 934 new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection in Singapore, with 838 in the community and 96 in the migrant worker dormitories. Amongst the local cases today are 241 seniors who are above 60 years.

Summary of trends for imported cases

8.     There is 1 imported case today, who developed the illness during Stay-Home Notice (SHN).
